L R Enthusiast RANT

(1/3) > >>

C C:
I bought the Feb issue of Land Rover Enthusiast today. Mainly because the front cover advertised an article comparing Discos I, II & III off-road.

What a let down! The Disco one was modified the Series 2 Disco was on road tyres and so could not compete and the three was not tested toughly because it was to expensive to risk damaging.

So not exactly a comparison then..:(

The only interesting info was about the lack of suitable mud tyres available for the Disco 3.

Rant over…:)

I had a go (as a passenger) in the D3 at billing . Well impressive. Did things that you cant do without all the gizmo's they have..like stopping on a short steep hill climb and casually setting of again!
Only prob i can see is that by the time i would buy one for use off road(or for anything- they arent cheap) all the electrical wizardry will be dead..and if not a few weeks in the mire and it will!

You can put Wrangler MT/R on a D3..  they work well enough.

i was lucky enough to take a D3 out laning ( as driver ) and i will say that all the electric gizmos to their job. on a wet slippery climb the D3 took it all in its stride. the disco 1 behind me was fully dressed in M/T had a few slips and slides and climbed to the top saftly but the D3 had road tyres fitted. its just clibed to the top without any effort. on a cross axle the D3 gizmos cut in and kept drive where it needed it to pull you through. while being very impressive i can see it being its downfall when the vehicle gets older and starts playing up.
i was very lucky to be able to have a proper play in a D3. lots of mud and water to play in. i threw what i could at it without damaging it and it came through with no fuss at all. i will say that the D3 could get you in to trouble easily though. as the gadgets are doing all the work for you. it sort of removes you from off roading.
just my opinion on it

woody:
i did the the D3 thing at LRO show, i have to say i was very impressed
but its the electronics that make it so good now will make it so bad in a few years
took my 3 year old along for the ride,
he couldnt unserstand why he wasnt allowed to drive        it caused a few laughs in the car though
