injuries you've done working on your land rover
prowler:
Mig welding an engine mounting bracket to a motorcycle frame yesterday when the wife brought in a cup of tea and the hot wire went straight through my glove/forefinger, and out the other side, had to cut the wire with blunt side cutters and pull the wire through with a sharp end on it. Then picked up another bracket I had just welded----with my bare hand.{ the same one I had just welded through}.
Not doing any welding today..................................
dazzawhipple:
rust in my eye working under my old 90
I had my eye scraped to get it out
defenderdan:
I dropped a chassis on my toes once, I didn't realise how bad it was until my foot turned red. My big toe had popped under the pressure, I couldn't walk for a week. It tought me that you shouldn't work in trainers, i still do though.
Fat Bloke:
A few of these sound familiar, makes yur bum go all funny just thinking about it ! Plenty of grinder and welder mishaps in the past myself.
I remember the funny ones although they hurt like hell at the time.
1. cutting out the floorpan on my RS2000 (ok not a landy) and wanting to do it so you couldn't tell from outside i decided to cut inside along the middle of the chassis rail so the join wouldn't be visible from under the car.Picture me sitting in the footwell with the grinder between my legs working towards me when the grinder dug into the kink in the rail and nearly pulled my wrist out of place, i let go and the grinder was dancing up and down flat out with bits of disc flying round like missiles.i put my boot out to stop it and managed to cut through all the laces, tongue and sock before digging a groove into my foot.
2. A few mishaps with the old mig but the most painfull was trying to fill a hole with weld rather than a plate over it and it got that hot a piece the size of a marble burnt through and fell down, yeah you got it landing on my foot again, straight through my 10 hole airwair boot ( worn for safety !!! ) into the flesh stopping at the bone. It was so painfull, and the boot seemed to take forever to unlace so i ended up putting my foot down the toilet and flushing it to cool it down. Left a bit of a scar but at least i can laugh when i think back.
3. Plenty of others but you will probably start to think i am a jinx so we won't go there today.
See the description below and you'll realise they are all in the boxes because i haven't got enough limbs free at any given time to bolt it all up. :)
the loon:
nearly cut my toes off with a grinder #-o
cant remember what I was doing but grinder sliped and hit my boot. Should of been wearing steels I know but fortunatly where good quality canvas walking type boots and not trainers
Its amazing how many land rover owners I know though who seem to be short either a finger or part of a finger - at least 4 I can think of off the top of my head
