Speedo cable

Hi, got a slight problem.

Went out the change dash illumination bulbs, 5 min job I thought!

Problem is there isn't enough play in the speedo cable to remove the instrument panel enough to get to the bulbs.

I am already worried i pulled too hard and may have dislodged cable from speedo.

If I feed more cable through the bulkhead to give enough play to remove the instrument panel is there anything i should check for, damage wise to the cable and where it connects to the speedo.

I have no idea how it connects so I wouldn't know if it was OK when I look.

Sorry for sounding so thick, any help greatly appreciated. :D
