steering problem

i have about 1/4 turn of free play on my steering wheel it had a new steering box about 14months ago. I have checked the pitman arm and all ball joints etc all are tight also tryed ajustint the steering box itself ( nut and bolt on top) this makes no differance to the free play. Anyone got any ideas as its doing my head in now :x
