Apparently its a natural instinct bred into them to mask their own scent :shock:
Most working dogs will do the same.

When the cows are out and have to be brought in for milking, our lane resembles a cows toilet.  Katie, one of our Border Collies just loves the stuff.  I've found that bitchs are far worse than cur dogs for eating s**t.  I'm just pleased that Rusty doesn't share her sisters Taste.  Katie, even though she will put her nose right up to yours, will not lick you.  Rusty will lick you to death.
