Hi Guys,
I need some advice...My Wife want to buy a Serengeti td4 that she has seen. Its a 02 plate with 22000 miles   Is there anything i should be looking for which is a problem with this model etc..Your advise would be greatly appreciated...cheers Ali

One thing I am aware of that may have been sorted by that year is unusual tyre wear. The rears can wear the inner edge strangely. One tread block worn down, next one raised, next one down, etc. It eventually creates a knocking noise on cornering. Sounds a bit like a failing CV joint. It can easily happen within the 22k miles. The car we have just bought (a 51 plate) has had the worn rears put on the front.... so check them carefully too.... we didn't!

Also, check for damp in the boot cubby box. Don't know how it get there, but some Freebies suffer from it. The tool kit rusts as a result.

HTH.

I think you will be surprised at just how capable they are.... if you get the chance to play with it! Ours certainly performed hugely better than my 110 in the snow the other week. And the traction control didn't even kick in  :D

The only limitation is ground clearance, but overall, they are excellent offroad and not too bad on road. Unlike most other 'soft roaders', LR didn't compromise the off road ability excessively to pamper to the school run brigade. Probably not a great commercial decision, but good that they felt they needed to retain something of their heritage.

The 1st gear on the manual transmission is too high really and you have to slip the clutch to get slow enough off road sometimes (no transfer box, of course). The auto has a much lower 1st and works really well as you can take your foot right off the pedal and it just crawls along. Ours came with the fancy steptronic auto box. I was pretty sceptical at first, but it's not at all bad really!

Anyway, good luck with the haggling... let us know how you get on.
