BFG copies?

disco 200:
I can only fit 235/70 16s as I haven't got a lift or anything. I thought I'd go for the Dakars as I went to Southam to have a look at some and they're exactly same as BFGs. Also I live on a main road and worry that someone might come and nick BFGs as they are so expensive and also resaleable...That's the only downside with Ebay isn't it? I bet loads of stuff on there is stolen.

GADGETP38:
You are probably right about Ebay, but I can't see the philosophy of "I won't buy the best as someone may nick it" catching on.    Why live you life as a "what ifs......." ?

I too live on a main road, but couldn't justify a purchase on those lines. Anyway, I assume you are insured?

The tread patterns might be the same, but don't fool yourself into thinking the tyres are the same.   Carcass quality, rubber compound, sidewall construction, etc. etc. etc.  all make a big difference to the tyres, how they perform and how long they last.

By the cheaper one by all means, but don't expect it to be the same as the BFG.

GADGETP38:
The carcass quality issue is nothing like it used to be years ago.
All retreads these days have to come up to all the standards of a new tyre.

Add to that the fact that the carcass on your retread may actually have started life as a far superior tyre than you could afford as new today, retreads are definately a viable alternative to buying brand new if you are on a budget.

Erm..  yes.. but that superior carcass might have already done 50K miles before you got it.

Anyway... I didn't say remoulds aren't a cheaper alternative... just that because it *looks* like a BFG, doesn't mean it is necessarily *the same* as a BFG...  which is something the remould suppliers always want you to believe.
