Trailing arm replacement

Discotel:
Hi all, Can you help me please, I need to replace the trailing arms on my S1 2dr Disco, I bent them both offroading at Bures Pit on tuesday. I have bought a pair of Defender 90 HD ones to replace them.

How hard is it to do and can you tell me the best place to jack it up from and support it while I do the work, how long should it take assuming the bolts undo fairly easy. Also has anyone got a wading plug for the bellhousing I can have/buy please.

when i did mine I didnt jack it up at all.

just do one side at a time and it should be fine.

level ground of course !

the bolts on the rear of the arm can be a pain, but the ones at the chassis end are normally ok.  plenty of WD40 and copper slip on the new bolts to make it easier next time

do the 90 ones fit ok then? might have to do that on mine as i still have the spindly originals on

level ground and chock the wheels. I found using a ratchet strap is good as you can move the axle backwards or forwards a little if you need to. Are they the same length?
Best advice is get some new bolts and have an angle grinder ready...mine had been in only 12 months when i last changed them. they has been coppergreased when they went in and i ended up cutting them out! Also new bushes are a good idea and wont cost too much even for polybushes.

Good news  :D , I fitted the replacement arms today, they fited just fine and only took about 1 HR 30Mins to do as all the bolts come off a treat. Thanks for the advice, I did not have to jack it up and I used a ratchet strap to pull the axle back into line to fit them in.

Just incase anyone is interested, Defender 90 Trailing Arms DO FIT a S1 2Dr Disco.
