The one I got was very well built. No visible flex. You would actually want a tiny bit of flex though to allow it to stay together over time. I would imagine most of the strength would come from the glass as well similar to modern cars.
Given the choice between a genuine steel and a non gen ally one like the one I had on a Rangie, if I was going to keep a Rangie even if the above were given to me I'd chose the Ally one hands down.
They are also a good selling fetaure to anyone in the know. I just had a drastic change of heart after lots of work on the Rangie and ended up trading it in.

We've had an ally one on ours for about two years now and I've not noticed any flex in it.
It came with good fitting instructions and I think it came from Bearmach, but not sure.
It's also alot lighter than the steel ones and make sure you remember to get a new bottom seal for it, I didn't and I've still not gotten round to replacing it yet. :wink:

Well my search is over!......... One of our mudclub members sent me a mail saying he had a good one forsale...... so Im aff on wensday to pick it up. Mudclub is great :(contented):
