Jake:
It snowed for 2 mins last night.
I just about made it to the car before it stopped.
I guess i'll have to wait again for a bit of snowy night laning.

Stormin:
As I sit here, with logs blazing away in the stove, dogs lying stretched out on the mat and glass of cider to hand, I can't help feeling slightly amused at all the fuss about a little snow. :?   4cm (what ever that is) :?   2-4 inches.  That's not snow!    When I where a lad :D   I can remember going to work from Parbold near Wigan, to Mossley Common, Manchester, (19 miles) in a foot of snow.  And THAT was on a motorbike.  Good few years back mind.

the loon:
Took me 2 hours to get home tonight from work its about 20 miles and normaly takes about 35-40 minutes

I'm out in the sticks but work in town and they refuse to beleve that if the roads are clear there they maybe dangerous anywhere else
tried to get away early as looked like I might not get home and blankly told no

A1 around newcastle was sheet ice like disco geordie said and so where most of the minor roads leading on too it and out near me theres at least an inch of snow and on the roads and under that its sheet ice no sign of gritters even attempting to clear it

most drivers are taking care - slowing down leaving extra stopping space etc but still a few idiots doing 50 on ice. one numptytried to pull out in front of me on a roundabout in a focus all he managed to do was spin his wheels drift sideways and nearly get the bumper of my 90 in his drivers door.
I think he realised how stupid he had been as tipped his head back and let out a big sigh of relief

SWMBO also had lucky escape when she span the car - only doing 5mph as road was iced but she was a little shock up fortunatly both SWMBO and car are fine

and according to met office its going to be down to -7 tonight

Current warnings:

EARLY WARNING OF SEVERE WEATHER

EARLY WARNING of Heavy Snow and Drifting Snow Issued by the Met Office at 10:57 on Wednesday, 28 December

OVERALL RISK ASSESSMENT: The probability of disruption due to severe weather conditions in part of the United Kingdom within the next 60 hours is 80 percent.
This is the first warning of disruption due to Heavy Snow and Drifting Snow.
The Met Office is expecting a band of heavy snow, accompanied by fairly strong winds, to move across the United Kingdom, from the west, during Thursday and Friday. This will turn to rain with time, more quickly in the west, with rain more likely throughout near south facing coasts. Temporary accumulations of 2- 5cm are expected to occur quite widely, with perhaps more than 10cm over some higher ground in the north, where drifting is likely. Some disruption to travel is quite likely.
Western areas will be affected by this weather event on Thursday, and eastern parts on Friday, with 3 to 6 hours of snow likely in places before milder conditions bring persistent rain and a rapid thaw.
This warning will be update by 1000 tomorrow, Thursday 29th December 2005, unless it is superseded by the issue of flash messages.
