Depends what alternator you have. Once you start putting additional loads on the charging circuit the alternators capacity can easily be overwhelmed. I have an 80 amp one but some 90 etc has much lower amp alternators. The efi system alone probably uses 10 amps , my electric fans about 20. Add a few lights then spots/ cb/ fridge/ stereo and suddelny you are taking more out than is being produced. Start winching at night if you want to see what your car is capable of!

Yes but just putting an extra battery wouldn't affect the alternator would it ? Adding a winch or extra lights would require more from the alternator.

I think theres a chap on ebay selling 120amp alternators for about £80 at the minute by the way.

Bulli:
Thats a good price, one of the guys in our club has just fitted a 140 amp from the states....thats got some ummph. No it wont make a difference to what the alternator does but having the extra battery means you have twice the reserve power(assuming the batts are the same)
