Which is the suitable transfer box?

(1/1)

I Have an R380 off a Disco which came with the disco transfer box attached.  I also have a recon transfer box from a defender (same box)  I undrestand the ratios are different and I can't decide which box to use.  It is worthy of note that my 110 is running on 900's (wheels).  The engine will be a 300 TDi.

It has been suggested that I go for the old transfer box as I will get a better road speed on the motorway, however the other box is new (recon) and my gut feeling is to go with this one.

What are your suggestions please?

Hi Snezza

I'd be tempted to go with the Defender Transfer box.

Although low range should be the same on the two boxes, the high range on a disco box is higher than on a defender.

You might struggle getting decent acceleration without changing down all the time with the 900's.

Cheers

Ben

The Disco transfer box will have longer gearing, so will (in theory) go faster on a motorway, I/we can cruise at 80-90 no probs and can go faster at a real push.

I've voted for the Defender box though as it has lower gearing and will be better suited to your wheels/tyres, many disco owners fit bigger tyres for off road, then fit the defender transfer box to regain the lost accelleration.

I'd say sell the transfer box (as it sounds a good one) and fit the defender box

OK, looks like the Defender one has it, I do have someone who is interested in the Disco transfer box aswell, but am unsure how much it is worth second hand.  IT is a friend so I am not too fussed about getting top whack.  Any ideas anyone?
