Not quite true.  A Dynamo can work either positive or negative earth.  All it takes to switch the eartha round, is to connect the battery the opposite way, and give it a few seconds being ran and the earthing will now have switched.

Problem is, you risk blowing parts of the electrics doing this on such old vehicles, as the voltage box has a number of switches in it which switch depending on the earthing.

This thing has an alternator!  Thankfully, and yes his name is Simon, Maltelec off the series 2 club forum, but i do believe he is an auto electrician as opposed to a normal one.

Yeah, thought it was going to be him.  There arn't that many people in Cumbria with a poo-brown Series Land Rover that I know of.  :P

Especially as he actually has 2 poo brown ones!! poo1 and poo2, currently poo2 is on ebay!

Yes, I know.  He also has a Series 3 109-inch which is an ex-police vehicle...
