Body welding
pedro:
im planing on bobtailing my rangerover 1979 i was wundering weather or not the body can b welded back together i thought that it could with it being alli. But i see a lot of you riveting. whats the easyist?
Id prefer to weld it.
im also thinking a snub noseing and shotening the chasis. is this possible.
Cheers
Pierre
MADMAN:
You could weld the panels but you will get distortion in the panels unless you are very careful
also can you weld ally?
might be easier to use csk rivets & butt the panels together with a backing strip to drill into & rivet that way you will get a flat finish that should only need a skim of filler to look spot on
as for the front ive no idea but i recon someone else is sure to know
Range Rover Blues:
Why do you need to weld the body, cut the rear panels and re-form the flange at the rear edge to re-mount the rear corners (which are steel), job done. The superstructurte is steel anyway so no problems.
The biggest problem with snubbing the nose is where to put all the c**p that's under there, the bonnet is steel although I'd suggest cutting the back edge of it away and the wings could be re-shaped to allow the headlights/indicators to be moved back. The only panel you need to cut and shut is the roof, you'll end up using a lot of filler on that anyway however you do it. Stary with the edges as that's the bit we all see.
pedro:
thx for the replys. im planning on moving the rad to the rear nothing else really goes there exept the bumper but ill aait and see what happens.
Also it it possible to fit doors from a 4 door 2 a 2 door. and shorten the chasis to 87".
Cheers
Pierre
Range Rover Blues:
There is no such word as "can't" but why fit the 4 dr doors to a 2 dr, just shorten a 4 dr.
