410 Transfer box.
« on: December 14, 2005, 20:58:43 »
Will a 410 transfer box fit into a Samurai with out any modifications?. I know that the 410 had a transmission brake but I'm lead to believe that this will just need removing from the 410 box before fitting to the Sammy, is this correct ?.

the 410 box should fit, though you might have to check the the prop flanges are the same size.
the mounts are the same.
the handbrake just comes off with 4 bolts.

The handbrake drum is a spacer, and must be replaced with the extended flange fitted to the 413 box(if removed).
Theres no reason to remove the parking brake tho, remove the cable and shoes and leave it there. all the rest is the same, except the ratios.

Just one thing, check you can select 4x4 and hi/low when fitted. Ive found the gear levers to often be slightly different and foul on the opening on the trans tunnel.   You can swap em with the case in situe, but Id recommend swapping your original lever into the 410 case. Lift the rubber boot, press and twist the locking collar 90 degrees, and pull lever out.
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

Cheers Guys, I picked up the 410 box on Weds and me & a mate are going to get it changed this weekend. My old standard Sammy t/box wines like a banshee so things should quieten down a bit hopefully!.

Dan,

The 410 t-case will bolt straight in without any mods.

The 410 and 413 gearboxes are not interchangable, everything about the box is different, mainly the bell housing that bolts to the engine.

The 410 does have different ratios to the 413 box. With a 410 box the gearing will be around 12% lower than a 413 box.

Dan, im 90% sure the clutchs are different also, im sure the shaft is smaller on the 410 gearbox.
The last clutch i bought cost around 60 quid about 12 months ago, you should be able to get one at any good motor factors.

If your gearbox is fine then just go for a new clutch. There not hard to fit either.

Good luck
