Clutch going need advice

(1/4) > >>

jnoshea:
First let me describe the symptoms in case I'm wrong but I really think my clutch is about to give out:

When very cold pressing the clutch leads to a load dry scraping noise related to engine revs. Even when warm, if I depress the clutch pedal just a little bit (not enough to release the clutch) there is the same dry scraping noise. When driving, I can get the scraping noise to happen again by giving it some serious throttle.  Pulling away from lights seems to give a juddering now which is getting worse by the hour, doesn't happen every time, but most of the time. When changing down a gear from higher revs the car seems to rock back and forth (this one is hard to describe) and the same when pulling away from a roundabout.  The rocking has been happening for a while but the noise is very recent.  So what do you think, is the clutch about to give in?

Can anyone recommend a good garage in the Nottingham area to get the clutch changed?

JUst had a quote for £410 and they can do it early next week.
Is this a good price?

Not sure, haven't had one go, I usually use a local garage near me, but it would be a bit far for you.

Yu could try:

JP 4x4 in Skegby (John) http://www.jp4x4.co.uk/ 01623 559833

or

Tonks 4x4 in Huthwaite http://www.tonks4x4.com/ 01623 452885

Neither are particularly local, but specialise so should know what they are doing

Try Ashcrofts, in Luton - not totally local but not a disaster.
