Side-Steps & Sill-Bars
Bush Tucker Man:
With due regard to a forthcoming vehicular change, as outlined in; Which Do I Buy?, I'm trying to gather information to help future preparation of the said Defender (ie; Hands Free)
So to the next questions;
1. Are the proper Land Rover side-steps (the individual 'folders') compatible with sill-guards/rock-sliders?
2. Or is there a conflict in terms of the mountings used?
3. If there is a conflict, do any makes get around the issue?
Eeyore:
IIRC correctly, mate, about where the steps mount, you end up putting a big ol' hunk o' box section. I've seen a few 'homebuilt' conversions with the steps on the sliders, but they look really naff.
......first sniff of a boulder and they turn from angle iron into mangle iron!
When you think about it, though, a rock slider might protect your sill, but the step is still going to poke out from it or below it.
I guess the only other solution is to fit some form of running board type sill / steppy thing. Or live with a big step up (which is why SWMBO bought herself a Disco!) .

are tree sliders a feasible option? protect the sills but may project far enough out to form a step?
we've still got the oe side steps on and they seem pretty well anchored, have had the 90 rocking on them (not my finest move  ) and theyve only flattened on the bottom, no bending. they only reduce the ramp over if on a side slope
Jake:
I use my rock sliders as side steps.
Now the kids can enter the motor with no problems.
:D

I know, but I much prefer the look of folding side-steps

Don't like the look of side-runners/running-boards.
I'm used to the biggish step as I had the 110Tdi Hard-Top, it had 'folders; but I never used them myself (SWMBO did if she was out in it)
I do feel however, that they are quintiscentially associated with a Series/Defender
