Fitting an electric fan?

I have an electric fan mounted in front of the radiator that I used to run on constant before I finally replaced the water pump.

I want to remove the original fan completely.  Can anyone recommend an electric thermostat type thing that will do the job.  Cant seem to find a cheap one online anywhere, best I have found is ebay

Anyone fitted one?  Are they crap or is it worth the effort?  I want it mainly so it warms up quicker in winter and the fan doesnt chuck water and mud everywhere!

Wizard's a member on here!  Looks like it's a 'very similar' design to the Kenlowe one I've got.  simple to fit (slot the sender into the top hose) - run the engine til it reaches the temp you want the fan to come in at, then turn the dial until the fan starts

Can i suggest that if the fan can suck as well as blow you move it to behind the radiator, it may increase the life expectancy of the fan unit, especialy if you are relying on it for cooling. Make sure that there is plenty of clearence between fan and engine, otherwise the two will meet.

A 2 pole switch/ 3 position (off/on/on) is worth having one on as permanent and one for the thermo control.  Off for wading, stops wet elecrtics.

Personally running a 16" Pacet on mine, would sugest the 14" to anyone as 16" quite tight to fit (yes it has been through 1 rad after fan and engine met).  Air flow from the 14" will be more than sufficient.

I fitted a kenlow fan to my SIII Swb ,which was great for road work but when I was green laning or off road did not keep up . now I have replaced the old fan and wish I had saved my cash . ....Al

I fitted one of Wizard's temperature switcher in the hybrid, very accurate on the cut in and easy to fit, (two wires)

Got a 16'' kenlowe on mine and works brilliantly, means you can remove the waste of space mechanical fan... therefore more power and warms up quicker so less noisy! Really easy to fit and U know it is a quality product so should last. Touch wood well until I go wading.

Another way is to use something like a Vauxhall Frontera top hose - the fan swich screws into it. Just got to find one the right diameter.  Fronty one is about right but not tried it.  Not variable cut - in though.

I got the thermostat for mine from a chap in the US off ebay, ebay thermostat
 It came with all the kit to fit it bar the relay, the temp sender just pushes in to the radiator fins by the top hose.
 This appears to be the same thermostat that vehicle wiring products sell http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/horns/horns.html it’s towards the bottom of the page.

I've got a Pacet fitted to my S3, fitted in front of the rad as the clearance behind was too tight for my liking.  A doddle to fit and I've had no problems with it.
