Once more 'BTM' provides pictures for your pleasure.
The places I go to try & get interesting pictures for you lot

I ended up driving 10miles around the Holme valley after missing a turning & then walking about 2miles along an old road, not legally driveable (I don't think) which is a pity, as it's a lovely area

Although it seems they appeal to some members

Somehow, in a couple of months, the expression; 'When Hell Freezes over' will come true just here

There was an Austin K9 slowly returning to nature alongside a farmhouse called 'Elysium' on the road to hell

Is that the Hades just north of Rochdale?

Never fancied going up there, the name makes it sound too cold, but maybe I should if they have been creative with their walls, what else is there worth seeing

No Tim, it's to the south of Holmfirth, at roughly this point (th two buildings in the circle are the derelict cottages

On another forum ('T&T') I was directed to this site that features a walk around the area

We've also got other biblical/mythological referances up here; There's a village called Egypt west of Bradford (near New Holland)

There is also an Egyptian temple in the middle of Leeds, that latterly was part of the 'Kays catalogue' empires HQ (plus 2 Italianate chimnies in that same Leeds album)

Is that the road that you don't tink is legally drivable?

It certainly looks like someone has driven it, either a farmer with legal access or someone who doesn't care ( ).

It looks a good route to follow

Holmfirth ey.........

I like having short breaks up there, so I might venture out and find these places next time I'm up  :D

That's part of it, I think farmer & the owner of a business a bit further along (behind my shoulder & mentioned in the link as an 'outdoors business') use it

If it co-incides with my days-off, I'll be more than happy to meet up, or provide OS refs for lanes & other things to do.

This is a nice little lane as well, but to the south-east of Holmfirth.

He's got a point, I'm suprised that you don't quit the NHS and become a tour guide, maybe this is your opportunity for a practice

I ought to  be committed, working 9years in the NHS, committed & the key thrown away. A plea bargain of insanity

Believe it, or believe it not Tim , it has been suggested on occasions, run as a  guided tour by Land Rover.

'Gords'.  If I'm available, Im certainly up for the planning/route-finding at the very least.
Would you be wanting 'BTM' recommended food-stops as well?

I hope he doesn't mind me 'saying' this, but 'Skywalker' asked me to possibly assist as a driver/guide/persuader in order to help  have some lanes around Wakefield upgraded/opened.
Sadly the person/persons he offered to help never came back to him     (I was working anyway)

Well, it would be best if you could join in too - I'd hate to come all that way and not actually meet you! :)

Give it some thought - the best time of year (scenery at it's best, but still driveable), the best area(s) and for me, it would need to allow for camping and/or B&B, etc.

I think it would be best to wait for at least spring, but I'll contemplate a full days scenic drive in the county (on both surfaced & unsurfaced routes)
We'll take in;
Art-Deco houses
Suspension footbridges
Pack-horse bridges (neither to drive across)
Spa buildings
Moorland roads
Railway cafes
'Golf-balls'
etc, etc........

Holmfirth is a nice little town, but bar the 'Last Of The Summer Wine' connections has not a lot going on.
Admittedly it is still a thriving market town & is thankfully not like some villages/small towns where you can buy a Alpaca cardigan & a jar of imported balsamic vinegar, but not a loaf of bread. I can name one in North Yorkshire that appears to be heading that way, it even has a Rohan shop, but no actual village-shop (as far as I know)

Around Holmfirth there are inumerable lanes.
It is also neighboured by;
HolmeMoss (the West Yorkshire/Derbyshire border is on the top & a swine to pedal up)

Saddleworth Moor (sadly still renown for Hindley & Bradys dastardly deeds)

Penistone (a nice country town, with a name that still causes local school-children some hilarity :? )

Huddersfield (a nice town with some very fine Victorian buildings, and Castle Hill -a pre-Roman defensive site; it's allegedly the highest point looking east until the Urals  )

And that's just for starters

First time I heard his music was a video of Guitar Town on the Old Grey Whistle test

S'funny, that's the first place I saw him as well.
Think I also saw Dwight Yoakham on there as well, another old favourite of mine (revealing some of my musical tastes there :D )

Excellent album ('Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc...'), can't believe it's getting on for 20years since it first came out
The track 'Bury Me' holds a special significance as an old friend of mine apparantley went out with Maria McKee for a while.
