Yep, They are different. I seem to recall the box is a bit further back, but it's been a while since I looked TBH.

Rich_P:
Yes, the gearbox is mounted further back.  Basically, the engine bay comes further back into the cab than normal, so you get this buldge in the center of the bulkhead unlike the standard 4-cylinder bulkhead.

Good engines the 2.6 are, as long as they are maintained and looked after.  They won't take well to the abuse that a standard 2.25 can take, either.

Everything is 4" back compared to a four pot, so props are different, but yeah its a great engine if its set up right. I am after another one myself for my one ton. Watch out for the bottom end, and make sure they are topped up with oil - cos they will burn it!

Neil Jones:
Don't think my dads burns oil, infact I don't think it needs topping up much at all.

Seeing the JLO movis on that site made me very excited, I havn't heard the old six pot run for a while, then when its driven off down the road there is that wonderful burble that is unique to the 2.6.

Did you get the landy? How much did you pay? Got any pics?

Henry Webster:
They do like their fuel though, which is why alot of them were ripped out and replaced with V8s that do similar consumption and are more powerful.

Have to admit a soft spot for the 6 - used to be a guy in Scotland racing a series 1 with one in.... 8)
