No, about half full

(something like that anyway, have slept since I read the missing thread)


If the fuel filter is not full to the brim, then it is usually a sign that the lift pump is failing.  With the feed pipe to the filter disconnected, the lift pump can probably manage to spray fuel out... but to fill the filter and keep it fill requires a greater pressure and thus supply.

I think this has been suggested on another forum.

I can't remember the original fault now, I think it was that you'd suddenly lost power.... did the engine stop?

As standard a diesel runs with an excess of air anyway, and the air flow into the intake manifold would need to be completely restricted for the engine to stop.... a partially blocked intake would reduce power and would most likely create quite a bit of black smoke, but the engine would still run, but would be down on power.

For a foreign body to block the intake to such a degree, it would have to be something quite big.... all the intake pipe work it at least 2".

Ya were right Lift Pump replaced it today and sorted me Alternator belt more slack than Cole mine!!
