I past 7 of these army tankers on the M3 the other day.
Thats a big unit pulling a water trailer.
Anyone know what it is??

It did say Oshcosh on the side step.
I was'nt sure though if that was the brand or the the makers of the step.
I read it and thought that Oshcosh made kids clothes.
Guess they make bl**dy big trucks too.

A lot of manufacturers started making heavy plant/equipment many years ago and as modern times demand diversification, when they see a gap in the market then they fill it. Anything to make money and keep the company going.

Nokia make big tyres and safety wellies. Recently they do mobile phones.
Daewoo make big ships,large excavators, recently they do cheap cars and cheaper microwaves.
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

Caterpillar make heavy plant, now they make shoes.  Or at least I assume they don't make them, but they do brand them.  And Land Rover brand mountain bikes...

Maybe Oshkosh should diversify into coshes.

yeah thats a oshkosh good bit of kit they either pull water or fuel also we have another version looks  simlar but has more wheels and is a tank transporter for the challenger2 mbt

I read recently in one of the truck magazines they are all run by a private company now not the army, another service that got farmed out to the private sector, but all the drivers are signed on as territorial reserve and have to complete basic training as they could be on salisbury plain this week and then onto the frontline in baghdad etc :shock:  one of the guys used to work for parcelforce and chose this as it was different

I read that as well inthe motorway services (Tibshelf) & it's certainly a bit more dangerous than a Jack Russell in the garden.

Cut-price army drivers for the government then?

Heavy Equipment Transport

Tank Transporters or Heavy Equipment Transporters are capable of pulling an immobilised tank on board, and can carry 70-tonne Main Battle Tanks. They can move their load rapidly and cost-effectively, saving wear and tear on the tracks – and the roads. The semi-trailers are equipped with a heavy-duty winch – giving an all-up weight of 104 tonnes.
The new Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) is the most powerful tank transporter in production. It consists of an Oshkosh 1070F 8x8 tractor truck and a King Trailer GTS 100 seven axle semi-trailer. Its after-cooled Caterpillar C18 turbocharged diesel engine develops 700hp.
