Engine conversion plates

(1/3) > >>

prowler:
I have just been given an Astra Belmont 1600 which by my reconing will not pass another MOT, but motor runs good with fairly low miles,
So, looking at my SJ this morning and thinking, SJ416.
Can anyone out there tell me if anyone does a conversion plate to match Astra engine to SJ gearbox.....Has anybody done it before,do splines match/starter motor line up etc.etc..................................................

hi m8y wot you need is a carlton gearbox to mat to ur engine then all you need is to make a short middle prop to ur t-case ,engine mounts made up and bobs nearly ur uncle

ps ur get more info on difflock btw

rollazuki:
Why bother, break the belmont, sell all the bits, and buy a 2.0 petrol or a Vauxhall tdi engine and a carlton gearbox. Even better

prowler:
Would my halfshafts be man enough for 2.0ltr ????
Would that be an Astra turbo diesel lump ????
Carlton g/box would be nice [ 5 speed ].
What about electrics on modern diesels, do I need to play with my loom??
You have got me thinking now, If I move the engine backwards on chassis towards middle and move t/box back as well, shorten rear prop/lengthen front prop, as the diesel lump is heavier than a petrol move all the weight to the centre, hmmmmm, rear mounted rad.
I am deciding how to build a new body on it any way [ no body on it at the moment] so all the work could be done easy enough with nothing getting in the way........................
Thanks for that..

Not gunna sleep tonight now.. Right where is that tape measure
