No I've not moved it, and I haven't moved the throttle potentiometer either  :D

The question is, where would I move them to, When ever I've checked under the seat boxes, the tide mark on the ECU one is only an inch or so, and the ECU is mounted right at the top. Even after a prolonged wading session. In anything with a bulkhead\mesh divide it's easy stick at the top of that, but the only sensible place I could put it, would be the above the roof lining, which means near enough stripping it out  :(  So the other option is to waterproof the seat box, which is fine, but I'm not sure how the water is getting in. I've silconed the obvious holes, but it still gets in, and if your not careful all you do is trap the water in.

The other option is to buy an Extension cable to move the EMS/ECU. I have seen them somwhere on the net not cheep tho I think they was about £100 but may be worth the money if it stops you from having to spend silly money getting ya new one and engine drained out after it stops. The way you wade if the engine stalls the water would rush up the exhaust and flood the engine.

If you had the cable you would be able to move it to wherever you wanted.

You'd need a extension cable to move it anywhere sensible, it's just that there isn't anywhere sensible without one hell of a lot work stripping the vehicle.

Just an Idea mate you dont want the bill for a new ecu and engine. I dont have that problem. I can take the battery off mine and bump start it. Runs without. There is something to say for the old landys still.

Door seals was my first response, but since then I've watched a few DVDs and learnt, you don't want Door Seals for Wading. If you watch a Toyata go wading, it will float, which if there is a side current means it goes over, if there isn't it means no traction. Accept that your going to get your feet wet, and go for it, you've got a snorkel!!  :D

& with that approach i ended up with standing on the bonnet the only place that was dry

Seriously tempted by that, and had thought about it before, but I'm note sure what sort of heat dissapation is required.

I thought I had sealed it but it still leaks, and I don't really think there is room for a pump really. Obviously the answer is to have a play vehicle, and a work vehicle rather than one combined, then I can modifiy it abit more radically.

Last time I was up there Drum, brand new TD5 90 drowned completely due to ECU in the lake and was last seen waiting for the breakdown truck to arrive wondering how he was going to get it on Warranty......was going to go for Warranty on the basis that the ECU under the seat seats below the wading depth in the handbook so it wasn't his fault......

Having said that, your wading depth of 8 foot may affect that in some way

And sorry Jim-wily but I have to tell to help you out against all this ribbing...

After he slid graciously down the bank and settled on the rock, Jim-wily said to me

"[!Expletive Deleted!], now the're all gonna think I'm stuck....I could drive out of this easy but I refuse to scratch my Mud Club member sticker on that rock so I'll have to get Drum to spin me round a bit!"

Telling you, it's true

I wouldn't mind knowing how he got on  :D  I am all to aware that mine does get a bit close to been damp at times, I might explore the tupaware box at some point, as I reckon the seat box is nigh on impossible to seal successfully. That said I might strip out the contents, and give it a really good  go with the sealant first. Ofcourse the next problem is the fuses which are all just infront of the gear lever, and just as vunerable.

I think that the ecu is far more vulnerable than the fuses - i have had my fuses under water with no probs to speak of , but i have heard of a few td5s with flooding probs.

Oh I agree dave, the ECU is the first to tackle, however I reckon if you short your fuses out the worst you might do is blow a bulb or similar. With mine a shorted fuse, could lead to a short been fed to the ECU and back to the same scenrio.

Remind me why did I buy a TD5??
