WHAT THE !!!
smith335:
can any one help .
i went to drive my 1984 90 this morning, and for some reason i could go forward but when i tried to go back the rear wheels just locked up.
i jacked up each corner and spun the wheels , the fronts were fine, but both the rear wheels would only spin forward. i did manage to get them to turn back wards but with great effort.
its like the brakes are sticking on , but only backwards.!!
i would of had the wheels of and looked at the brakes but the weather hear in wales is nasty. so i was hopeing some one can set my mind a rest as i hope its not the diff or some thing.
cheers
Range Rover Blues:
I'll assume you have drums on the back. One of the shoes is a 'leading shoe' and one 'trailing'. This means that one is intended to exert greater force due to the rotation of the drum than the other and often has more lining on it, the leading edges are also longer ie no lining for about 1". It's possible that the trailing shoe is dragging so that when you reverse it become a leading shoe and jams onto the drum. You should check that the piston is returning properly and that all the moving parts works as they should, also that the shoes are centres correctly within the drum.
