suzota:

they have my spare email address and my name. thats all
it looks like a plan to get a club card type thing where members get a discount for loyalty.

Not really related to the original point, but to add to Muddysteves text:
I've seen how the fuel is then sent out from a distribution centre, ALL the lorries turn up and fill up with THE SAME fuel, lots of lorries, lots of brandnames on hte side. The lorries then drive into a 'parking area' where they add there 'special formula' which is no more than a jug full (wasn't close enough to see properly) added to a whole tanker full of fuel.
Don't belive the hype about say - Esso fuel is better than Texaco, IT'S 99.9999% THE SAME!
Just my 2p to add to yours (so that's 4p now!)

also if its not a scam and completely genuine imagine the scene
ben scammel gets 5 million people signed up and goes to see the CEO of BP
ben says "will you offer us a discount if all our members only buy fuel from you"
Mr BP "not a hope"
Ben "ok we wont use BP fuel in any of our vehicles then"
Mr BP "like to see you try"
while the oil companies are making huge profits its not from selling petrol to motorists so i dont think they're really going to care to much if everyone buys from esso, total etc as most of it's BP oil in the 1st place
Steve
6p now

The flaw with all these things is that the retailers don't make much profit on the fuel. The government takes the lion's share, with the rest going to the producers, refiners, distributors etc.
With such a fuel card, it works at the retailer level, so you're asking for a discount from the one person who makes virtually no profit on the whole transaction.
The forecourt businesses of companies like BP and Shell are run totally separately from their exploration & production businesses. The forecourts will just buy fuel at the market rate from wherever they can. So the idea of going to BP and negotiating a discount right up and down the supply chain is totally unrealistic.
So I don't think it'll work. My advice would be, if you want to save money on fuel, either overthrow the government and get that 72p tax cut down, or buy a more economical car.
