bambamjj:
Hi

want to put the Ignition coil of my v8 into electrical enclosure box to keep it watertight.  is this possinble or does the coil need to breath to stop it heating up?

Hope you can help

There is a couple of threads about waterproofing distributors and coils, I'm sure somebody that can will put the links in

As for the coil, if its a standard coil, you really only need to seal the electrics end up, a rubber glove and a cable tie round where the cables comes out through a finger or two

Then the cooling onthe coil will be ok, but if I recall there are a few people that have completely enclosed the coil as well

DISCO-CHRIS:
GOT A BRAND NEW WATERPROOFING KIT FROM TUFF TOYS IF ANY GOOD TO YOU £20?
DOES COIL+DIZZY. :?

Range Rover Blues:
Marigolds, £1.09

Also, if you get to a scrappy, take the 'top hat' fitting from a Ford, you'll need the negative from 2 cars as the possitive is bigger, these push straight onto the threads on the coil and drastically lengthen the arc-path when the coil is damp, effectively preventing it.  I solder them into the wiring and cover with heat-shrink.

bambamjj:
Excuse my dumbness  but what are top hats, where abouts on the vehicle are they?

Jon
