200Tdi ITG air filter...it don't fit!!

Hi guys,
As usual another dead simple job has gone t*t's up!!

Replacing the air filter how hard can that be? Open the can remove old, insert new...simple!! Except that when I removed the old knackered one it appears that the lid of the can is part of the filter.....hmmm that nots good, So I open the new ITG box and out comes the filter, hole one end, aluminium plate the other, the plate is bent, looks like its been dropped on it, the one thing that grabs me straight away is the fact that the (bent) aluminium plate looks nothing like the end of the old filter which incorporates the lid of the can....and I would be dead right, not only that but the filter rattles around the inside of the can like a dick in a bucket!! Its about an inch and a half smaller diameter. I guess they sent me the wrong filter!! Not really a problem except , the end of the filter is bent, so if it was done in the post, they probably wont except it back as its damaged, and trying to get some form of compensation from the post office is a non starter, as the missus signed for the parcel and accepted it. So two options, try and bodge it by cutting the lid off the old airfilter some how or second option stick the filter on e.bay and lose loads of money, and end up having to buy another one at full price again!!
Very p*ssed off, and it seems a fair few quid out of pocket!!

Personally, I'd contact them and tell them/confirm that they've sent the wrong part. Then, send back the incorrect one - don't worry about the damage, it was their mistake in the first place.

Was the item signed for? Did you have to confirm the contents as "undamaged"?

Stand up for yourself - they sent the wrong item ... and by the sounds of it, improperly packaged. So, demand the correct part or your money back. Then ask them if they want to collect/pay for the return of the faulty/incorrect item?

fram:
Right, first of all an apology to allisport

The filter is the right one, at least according to the part number!
I have now fitted it using the top of the old filter which I had to cut off!
The problem seems to be that I am missing the lid of the airbox, as the filter that was fitted didnt seem to need it as the lid was built in, so to speak. The new ITG filter appears to be a lot smaller in diameter though.
So now I am on the look out for an airbox lid for a 200Tdi....anyone?

Still doesn't sound right :?  I don't have a 200TDi, but my brother does so I'll try and take a look tomorrow.

I don't see why what is supposed to be a replacement filter doesn't fit straight on/in ... very odd!

If it was me, I'd be on the phone Monday checking with AlliSport (assuming they were the supplier).
