(1/2) > >>

dan:
would a Land Rover Defender  2.5 litre normally aspirated diesel engine and Gearbox fit in to a s111 if so what do i need to do?
Thanks
Dan

ChrisW:
I've just sold my S3 which had that set-up, it was already in when I bought it so not sure what you would need to do, but yes you can definitely do it.

I'm sure somebody will be along shortly with a few pointers!

matthew:
The engine, yes relatively straight forward as far as I know.

The gearbox is less straightforward as it would then have permanent 4wd which means you should change the front axle for one with CV joints (stage 1 V8 is the only leaf axle with CVs). Relative length of the gearbox may also cause problems with propshaft length.

Then again anything is possible with an oxy-acetylene torch and a big enough hammer

ChrisW:
ISTR that the 2.5, in simple terms, is just a 2.25 bored out to 2.5 with a bit of modernisation isnt it?

Would it be easier/better to bolt the 2.5 to the exising S3 gearbox or is the box stuffed?

Stage 1 V8 bits like front axles are like the proverbial rocking horse doo-doo arent they?  :?

I thought the difference was in the stroke.

Certainly easier. The 2.5 petrol went in my S2 without any problem.

The stage 1 specific parts are AFAIK
