The Church Moves In Mysterious Ways

(1/2) > >>

Bush Tucker Man:
Once again, a small Church to the north-east of Bradford is on the move.

Telegraph & Argus

I've often wondered about this buildings history, as it is so out of place with its location.
I originally thought that it had been brought from Scandinavia, Switzerland or New England by a Bradfordian woollen magnate as a (kind of) folly, but then it wouldn't be a folly as it would be serving a purpose.

St James. 2

The title to this thread is perfect!

I'm not suprised you have a picture of that one BTM, it looks odd for England (but I like it!).

Do you know why they are moving it, the article doesn't really seem to say, I guess its somehting to do with foundations.

Or have I missed something?

Thanks, as I stated, it's fascinated me for almost 30years since I first saw it, & is a beautiful building (if totally unexpected)
It's very near where one of the regulars, otherwise known as the;  'missing Mudder' works

The land is (as usual  ) being sold for restoration for use as housing as it's on quite a large plot & there's no attached graveyard to disturb.

I've gone past on a few occassions & seen people photographing it out of curiosity, as it's fairly close to Esholt, where 'Emmerdale Farm' was filmed for a number of years

some thing similar here

"The house that moved" was shunted about 20 yards back in the mid 70's to make way for new ring road.
I grew up in exeter so its always been in present possition since I was around but my dad worked for local council when it was moved and helped to lay new foundations

I've seen that one when we've been down there, it's a lovely house, & quite a well executed job.
Thankfully it's a not over the top restoration like some in York are.
