Winch Rope

I was thinking of replacing my metal winch wire, with synthetic, for both safety and ease of use. I've just spoke to Lifting and Crane, and they do a flat "webbing" which I seen mentioned on here, and read in LRO.

The standard line comes with a hook one end, and nothing the other end. However they seemed abit surprised when I wanted a sheath to cover the first few turns to protect it from the heat of the drum, and secondly I wanted a fastner on the end to attach to my winch drum. I'd basically like a crimp on connector that screws to the drum. I realise it doesn't take any strain, but just holds the rope while the first few turns go onto the drum. Should these be easy to do on a synthetic rope. Or am I best getting one that is already fitted?

Oh and what sort of sheath should I be using?

Going down that road? I would aim at PLASMA!!!

What does Plasma Offer that the other Synthetics don't other than thumping great price increase??

Well From what i have Heard Not Seen? They are Safe to use! And if it does Snap It will just drop on the ground as oppsed to Whipping back! As for Webbing that must be a nightmare reeling in if it starts to overlap and intertwine? I think that if i could afford it ? I would go Plasma Instead of Steel Which i have already! Or Webbing!
And when its time for me to get new rope it will be plasma!

im not wanting to step on any toes but please remember that "plasma" is imported into this country by andy T of rufftraks scotland,sadly as it is so good it has become generaic like hoover that all synthetic winch wire be tagged plasma,personally i think his is the best but mainly because i was winching with him IE ont end of rope & was thoughrly impressed,

FWIW he fits a lightweight rock gard to his lines as standard i think BUT for an extra £15 i think he will supply you a heavy duty sheeth for the winch to go through,this also doubles as a winch sail & is in BRIGHT orange to show that there is a line there
