Bulli:
I dont even have a front number plate, as far as i am aware the numberplate is not part of the test.Who needs one anyway???

Dr Neil:
the front number plate does have to be fitted for a MOT but providing the digits are correctly spaced and of the correct width(i.e not ittalics ect.),then it is o.k. However the law has a different view on this!!!

Having said that i am going to order a stick on number plate or the bonnet on mine as i have nowhere to fit a proper one, like evryone else with a winch and bullbars   :)

Wanderer:
There's two different things at play here.

MOT test and Construction and use.

As of not so very long ago, they changed the legislation with regard to number plates and their supply.  (Apparently this will help reduce car crime and identity theft... I suppose the car thieves must all use halfords for their plates)

Stick on plates are no longer "legal" number plates for road use...  plates also have to carry the name and postcode of the supplying outlet.  You also need to provide the vehicle V5, some proof of id, a DNA sample and your first born son to get one.

Despite the stickers we supply being on a proper reflective background, using the official number plate font (which you can still freely and legally buy... go figure !), and with all the correct spacing....  we have to advise our customers that they are for off-road or display purposes only.

I've never had issues with a stick on plate... and it has been looked at by Police officers...  in my experience, it is one of the excuses they can use if they want to legitimately stop you for a chat.   (Since they still don't have random stopping powers)

Hope that covers all the ins and outs ;-)
