noise on front o/s wheel.

scooby:
Hi there i have a noise on the front wheel when driving round a right hand bend or a roundabout. it only comes every now and then. Has anyone come across this before it's a 2002 td5. it doe's seem ok on joints etc when check out been told they do it  from time to time. i thought it mybe the silver ball drying out but not sure myself so if anyone has a idea let me know. (sounds like a whistle when driving).

Landy90IOM:
I had a squealling noise coming from f.o.s wheel and that turned out to be the wheel bearings.  Mine where totally shot, and I mean in quite a few pieces.  The seal had gone and I had no sign of wear until one day the wheel just locked up!  Best thing to do is jack it up and hold the top and bottom of the wheel and shake it, it should hardly move, if any movement at all.  If its more than a tiny amount then is probably bearings.

I'd say wheel bearings without a doubt!

Get them checked and tightened or replaced asap.  When they are a little worn its an easy job.  If they collapse or overheat you could find your in more of a mess partly because the wheel becomes VERY unstable, can lock etc and you could crash!!!!

It also overheats and welds the bearing case onto the stub axle etc etc

Jack up the wheel and try and move the wheel holding the top of the weel and the bottom.  If you have movement, however small its a wheel bearing or the swivel (silver ball bit) and get them sorted mate

thats what I had, it over heated and locked the wheel up causing me to fly across the road, luckly it was late at night... phew! it also took about 3 hours and a mighty flame to get it off the stub axle
