It was included in the S1 Discovery line specifically to get around an Italian tax loophole.  I think the engine is the Rover K-series, but I might be wrong, is it a VM engine? They are not tremendously popular as the engine is more suited to lighter applications and has to be driven fairly high up the rev band to get good results, so I'm told, but there are a few out there.

Not the K-series....thats the Freelander engine
the MPI 2.0l came from the Rover 200 series but I stand to be corrected

Was used in the Discovery 1  "200series"  IE before the face lift.
