Rear end vibration

(1/3) > >>

Damonski:
Hi all,

Since coming back from Peterboroughs event Ive noticed a sort of vibration coming from the rear of my Disco,

From what I have found and poked around with I think its these shock absorber lower rubber mounts.

Where would be the best place to buy suitable replacements?  and what sort of a job is it to complete?

Cheers!

Matt_H:
I doubt the rubbers would be the cause - but I'm no expert!  It could be smoething simple like a wheel weight come off, although you don;t tend to notice too mcuh vibration from there - also worth checking out ts the rear prop as I found out recently.

The rubbers aren't too difficult to replace as such, but if the nuts are rusted solid to the dampers and you can't get them off then it will be a problem.  Can't rem if the rear ones swivel when yuo try and undue the nuts, if they do it means you have to grab the damper body with a big set of grips which normally will distort or squash the unit.

Can't really tell from the pic but the washers don't look domed - they should dome outwards (it looks the wrnog way round) so that the middle is the most sqaushed bit - they shouldn't be sqaushed flat though, just enough to to hold  everything firmly in place.

Oh yes, they most certainly do

Luckily, I was taking mine off to replace them as I couldn't see a non-damaging way to get them (shock absorbers) off!

Matt_H:
I only had half a one on one side - the middle half was missing!!  (ok so that leaves 2 x 1/4 shocks)

I remember it was a pig of a job, but my disco I think may have ran on salty water when it was with its previous owners!

Feed it WD40 for a few days and give it a try, they *may* come off!

uururrgggggg :( This isnt sounding too good.

Well will have to get some sleep now and see what the weathers like tomorrow.

I am tending to think its these because the rubber looks flaky and i can waggle the end of the shock thats sticking out the bottom :(

Its a lot more vibration that a wheel weight, and it does it a lot more turning one way than the other, where one rubber looks and feels a lot worse than the other.
