Taken on Ramsden Lane on Sunday afternoon (wrongly called Rakes Road by me elsewhere)
A nice big rock step just around the corner made me decide not to go any further, I was by myself & had only seen hikers & a couple of bikers.

The hikers acknowledged the Byway status & were happy to share

Richard, I know this lane very well. Have you been up there recently? Someone ( I presume the council) has put a load of tarmac down. About 30 yards lower down from where your picture is taken. Is it absolutely definately a byway? The rock step you mention BTW is a killer when you come the other way and don't know it's there!!  The lane gets very entertaining further up. Quite deep wash outs and well rutted. Not the place you want to try taking a freelander. If you get right up onto the top(I'm presuming you haven't been up) there's a bit of an off road trials type area. Great in the summer. Winter must see about four feet of water in the centre where the ground is lowest! The guy in the house near where your picture was taken must get mighty p*ssed off with the ammount of 4X4's going by at all times of day and night.

I know there is one of the 50Th disco's in my village. Reg WAW892 owned by my mate William Willmott

Sorry, no I didn't, but they're finished in 'Atlantis Blue', with white leather (if I remember correctly), Sat-nav option, mega stereo, limited edition plaque.

It was in traffic in Wakefield, and as I reached for the camera it started flowing again, I'll keep looking for it though.

Karloss; Been going up there for years, Originally on the mountain bikes (or cyclo-cross bike) with the Dogs, then from about '94 with a Landie.
The road around the bottom has driveable status right from Holme-Moss to re-joinng tarmac & descending to Holme-Bridge.
As far as I'm aware Ramsden Lane is 'vehicular legal', the keen looking walkers I encountered agreed that it was.
The last time I drove it completely it was getting a bit dicey for a single vehicle.
The next stretch has nice views, Cartworth Moor, sorry no map ref to hand, but it shadows the valley road for quite a distance.

Big Rich, get him on here if he;s got the 'net, or at least get a picture for this page.

Bush Tucker Man:
Karloss.
The 'top lane' I mention is pictured in 'Yorkshire Scenes 2', well a landmark on the lane is; the old farm.

Also have a look at Cheesgate Nab/Scaleygate in 'My Old Land Rovers' (Full Twist) I hear from an old mountain biking buddy that it's in a quite a state now?
