glue, who uses glue?
you should be using clear mastic sealant, sticks like poo poo to a blanket as is not affected by heat. my gearbox, axles, diffs, etc are all sealed with the stuff....
Regarding headlights, use caravan cleaner as it breaks down dirt/grim but is gentle to the lens (don't use fairy liquid as it contains loads of salt to make the water softer which makes more bubbles and also makes your hands soft, so Wendy tells me).
Leave them in the airing cupboard and there'll dry out. When you refit them, use mastic around bulb and holder and, hey presto, job done and no more water (ps, make sure there dry before sealing as condensation could get trapped and they'll go rusty.

I've tried soaking but it's a combination of Tixover, Bramcote and Whaddon. Make of that what you will :)
I'll give the caravan cleaner a go Chris. It's actually a spare set so well worth doing. It'll be my MOT set :) Available for rent (only joking really)

Dave:
White vinegar and rice swill it round empty and dry. Or a sterident tablet comes up a treat.
Wanderer:
I wonder how you came by that answer Dave.
