Vibration HELP
ben_haynes:
just bought a 1990 200tdi disco and as i was driving today and it started to Vibrate through the steering / Pedals at about 60MPH. so i slowed down to around 50MPH and as i went over a rough section of road it started to do the same. but i can drive through it and it stops at about 65MPH
have had all four wheels balanced
What is the Cause / Fault?
Range Rover Blues:
Start by checking the propshafts, most likely the front.
The it's wheel bearings, diff etc etc for something that's probably bust.
If it was a V8 I'd also suggest a missfire.
colintandy:
hi ben i would agree with last gent check front propshaft uj and rear then have a check wheel bearings also check bushes and steering damper and track rod bar and ends the obviouse but easily missed check your tyre preasures and tyres it can all contrubute to that problem
did you get that from ray mate regards colin
TUFFTEE:
I agree with RRB! But check your steering Damper1 Thats where my problem was! every time i touched a small bump in the road my steering went mental!!
Budgie:
The swivel housing pre-load could be another one to look at.
You can check this when you do the wheel bearings. Jack one front wheel off the ground, grab the tyre at the 6 & 12 o'clock positions and try to rock the wheel in & out. If you feel any movement then it could be the swivel pins that need a shim or two taking out.
If you do the same by grabbing the tyre at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions and get movement than look at wheel bearing.
