'4x4's in tug of war fight'
Manicminer:
--- Quote from: "LOFTY" ---Seems a bit strange, a Patrol outweighs a hilux, and has more power and torque, yet the hilux pulled it uphill???
--- End quote ---
I was thinking the same myself.
Could have had some weight in the back to help with traction and maybe the owner was a 'better' driver and snatched the patrol before the other one had a chance

Either way, these two eejits have sent the pro 4x4 cause back to the stone age.
I present both of them with the Order of the Muppet.

Not big and not clever - in fact particularly stupid.
Once apon a time this was a competition that the All Wheel Drive Club amongst others used to indulge in. Not the safest though even in contolled competition environments.

I was once offered a similar challenge by a collegue in his new 250bhp Audi TT....he thought he'd be able to pull my Hilux Surf along backwards. I had a length of stout chain and was ready to go for it but he couldn't find a decent anchorage point on the TT and used that as an excuse to back down! Either way I couldn't explain to him that BHP and torque were different things (especially when concerning a 2.5 tonne 4x4 with a low range gear box!). We were going to do the challenge on the works carpark- not the public highway BTW.
The only foolish thing these two guy's did (other than risk damage to their own cars) was to stage the challenge on the Public Highway thus causing risk to other people & property. Otherwise it is a perfectly legitimate way of proving which car had the most 'grunt'.
The Hilux involved was a Toyota 3.0L TD Surf and not the UK pick-up. So the vehicles were pretty evenly matched. I'm pleased to report the Surf won- we need more nutters like this to make life less dull.

At the Pickering Traction Engine Rally in 2004, they tried it 'Big-Style' with an Abbot SPG & a Caterpiller D8.
I believe it was an honourable draw (we'd left before this)
