oily mess in bell housing

anybody have any clues
found about a litre and some of black oily liquide when removed wading plug from bell housing is this normal have been deep water wading and went to take plug out forgot about mess ran for container andf filled about half full any body any idears or is this normal in bell housing removed plug for road use and it all came out !!!thanks colin

could be clutch fluid leaking into the bell housing from the slave cylinder or engine oil from the rear main seal on the crank or perhaps g,box oil coming from the g/box input shaft seal maybe?

Water and oil wouldn't mix so you'd expect to see mayonaise. Clutch fluid is miscible so you'd get a sugary/slippery water.
You need to keep a close check on your fluids for a while and see which one's going down. Also, was there enough liquid for the clutch to be sat in a pool of it? :shock:

That was my thoughts Andy, could it be water and dust from the clutch pressure plate mixed? :?

i fink it is the crank case seal any body know how hard job it is to change mine is a 200tdi auto
