Overheating problem

(1/2) > >>

Dan Sandbrook:
When I bought my vit I stupidly got ripped off as the head gasket was gone thus leading to fun with the heating on all the way down the motorway from bradford to worcester to get it home. Since then had the head gasket replaced and changed the thermostat and waterpump it still seems to be running hot though. Silly question but ideally where on the temperature gague on the dash should the needle be? I assume in the middle but mine keeps creeping towards the red. Anyone had the same problem or any ideas?

HELP!

Is it a standard vitara? Some time you get air flow problems from modded bumpers / winchs or whatever. Do what simon said as well. Probably got a blockage somewhere but i wouldn't worry about it if it doesn't actually overheat...

You could also try installing an electric fan...

also want to check for air locks and what condition the rad in is in general not just blockages, mines on its last legs and ive noticed that the temp is starting to sit a little higher and i no it hasnt got any other problems, i,e blockages thermostat etc!

Dan Sandbrook:
It actually almost overheated today. I had the head skimmed when the head gasket was done so i don't think thats it. I think it might be the radiator so I might flush it out and if that doesn't do any good I'll get a new / used one though not from halfords as they quoted me £253 for a radiator!!!  How would I deal with air locks if that is the case. If neither of these how would I flush the whole system?
