'Niva On A Sunday'

(1/3) > >>

Bush Tucker Man:
Sorry for the bad Nana Mouskouri (or was it Topol in 'Fiddler On The Roof') joke there.

But my brother-in-law had one of these little 'Communist Chariots', it was surprisingly good.
His was a 'M' reg, with about 25,000miles showing when he bought it in 1999(?)
It had its bad points- quite thirsty & a bit slow, but reliable.
After all they were built to cope with a Russian winter.

Once it was re-tyred with a set of the Olympus(?) 'XCL' pattern re-moulds it took some stopping (on the road as well :D )

See the attached picture for the usual type of predicament he got into, & notice the 'Official JSL Recovery Vehicle' * on the main track.
Photo taken around the Yateholme Reservoir road (Burnt Kiln Lane?) at the base of Holme Moss.
He then moved on to a CJ-7, then a long (& ongoing) affliction with Suzuki's.
He did fancy a 90 at one point, but it had to be an exact  NAS copy
I wonder if the Niva still survives?

One of our number (in the chat room a couple of nights ago) is on the lookout for a 1.7 Niva.  Target cost is around the 600 quid or less mark.

If anyone hears of anything... let us know !

thermidorthelobster:
I think I picked up the end of one of the coil springs off one of those once, on a BOAT in the Cotswolds.  I found it in a patch of mud in behind the wheel when I got home.  Couldn't find the rest of the Lada though.

I'm just wondering how come it's not on the track? Unless of course it's a private play site?

Bush Tucker Man:
No it was at the side of a public road (a 'BOAT')
It was in the mud because he's a pillock!
Though admittedly, it was very well churned up by previous pillocks. :)
