Diff backlash
(1/1)
davidlandy:
How do u remove or adjust out the backlash in a diff?
is it the sort of job u can do yourself or is it an 'ashcrofts' job?
beast5680:
its a case of shimming the crownwheel bearings and the pinion bearing to get it correct, it can be very tedious to do sometimes.
I,ve done them on plant and agricultural stuff before and some can be a right pain to get right
Range Rover Blues:
Compard to a Ford 'English' axle the Rover diff is quite straightforward. The pinion is adjsuted with shims and then the crownwheel mesh is adjusted by measuring the backlash at the circumfrence of the crownwheel with a DTI.
Perhaps not a job for the fainthearted though, why not buy a S/H one?
