Had to nip out at lunchtime so I "taped" it with Sky+.
Got back in as it ended. Watched it in under an hour. Most of it at 6x speed. It's so predictable these days. Quick rewind when anything other than a procession was happening. Very few incidents.

Much more fun swapping radius arms  :lol:

I can remember being rivetted to the tv in the early mid 90s watching f1 - remember Senna being chased around Monaco with Mansell inches from his bumper - awesome  

like the touring cars as well when the Alfas first appeared on the BTCC with tarquini and simoni - it was like stock car racing - brilliant!

these days rules, regs, are killing it off - evey time someone gets overtaken in a 'spirited' fashion theres a stewards enquiry and fines

or is it me?, I think Im getting old

It is very processional these days, I used to go to lots of races in my younger days, F1, TT, 1000Km WSC, LeMans etc.  

Those days although the car & team & money obviously helped the main ingredient for winning was driver skill and a consequece lack of relience on electronic aids - real throttle control from the right foot & manual gearboxes.  One of the most enduring sounds for me was watching the Jaguar Silk Cut V12s entering the Mulsanne Straight and hearing it blatting off up the 3miles :D

Haven't been bothered with it for the past (15+??) years.
In fact the last time I seriously watched F1, was when Lauda was still racing, that was after his (old) Nurburgring fire.

As for Mansell...
If there was a World Whinging Championship, his cabinet would be full of trophies.

World Rally Championship for me, but even that's not as interesting as it was, since McCrae failed to get a drive & Richard Burns enforced absence.

I used to love World Superbikes, but again I haven't seen a lot of the pastcouple of seasons since Troy Bayliss (Ducati) went to MotoGP

I suppose F1 has to be viewed as a technical sport in the same way one might compare Test Cricket to a limited overs match. Long periods of play interdispersed by some thrilling  action.

Regarding the French GP the rules conspired against an exciting race. The engine rules placed Rakikonen back down the grid and the tyre rules meant that by the time Schumacher was in a position to chase Alonso, his tyres were already knackered.

Personally I think the best racing action is on two wheels.
