Trouble free wading

diff-breaker:
After finally getting my Series III i thought i best seek advice on whether i need to do anything before i launch it through the water at Billings LRe show ?
I have a wading kit for axle to breath, considered a snorkel but don't really want to swap the oil bath air filter for a paper one.
Can't see the point as if you are that dep in water that the normal air intake is in water the surely the battery/plugs would be beneath water.

Any advice greatly appreciated so i don't get stranded in the drink at billing.

Two obvioius things are the distributor and coil.

If you can raise the coil to the top of the engine, a favourite place is on top of the rocker box, and wrap it in a waterproof cover, a polythene bag cable tied up with a bit of silicon sealing it up from splash

Distributor wrap in a bag as well, tied below the locking clips for the cap and the same at the top with all the cables coming out.

The fan is good for splashing water around the engine, an electric one in front of the rad is a good replacement, if you have the bits, with a cut out switch, and a stat switch to kick it in, if you  want to do that.

ukmudmaster:
you will get round Billing, no problem with a standard S3 and abit of basic waterproofing. As stated, a mech fan will throw mud and water everywhere, electric with an isolator is the answer. Do NOT forget to fit your wading plug!! ( if you need one ,PM me). A piece of plastic sheet over the grille also helps to prevent clogging the radiator with mud.
I cant make it to Billing this year, and I am really, really, disappointed!
Enjoy the weekend,
Dave
