urgent question for a friend
hobbit:
If possible get somebody who knows these vehicles to go and have a look, or an inspection, AA or RAC maybe
thermidorthelobster:
If it has ACE (look for a hydraulic ram in the front right wheel arch, connected to something which looks like an anti-roll bar) then check to see if the pump is noisy. It should be audible, changing with the engine noise, but not obtrusive. If it's obtrusive then it may start causing problems.
Head gaskets on TD5s can go, but probably by the time you've found out it will be too late.
Also, check the rear air suspension (where fitted); when you press the dash button to raise the suspension (will only work with the driver's door closed and engine running) it should jack itself up over the course of about 45 seconds. It shouldn't sink down onto the bump stops when left overnight.
On the whole though, they're pretty solid.

By the way - it is possible to obtain and fit ABS sensors, I have a spare in my toolkit :) You just have to find a friendly independent who accumulates spares when they swap out hubs.

For the same reasons as the ABS sensor... check the wheel bearings for play !!
Once again, these are part of the same unit, and LR don't supply bearings as a separate part... 240 quid + vat per corner

had a spare hub at work after changing an abs sensor, than a disco came in when the hub parted company with the bearing so fitted that then discovered cos the hub had went over so far the abs ring had chewed through the sensor so had to find the old sensor in the bin & solder the wires together to get a useable 1,seen sensers on eblag but never got a reply bout them
