Title: Swing away spare wheel carrier.
Post by: paul_humphreys on July 09, 2008, 22:53:33
Does anyone know anywhere that makes hignes like these (http://www.rockstomper.com/catalog/pieces/hinge.htm) in the UK or Europe?

The shiping from the USA is over 3 times the item cost.

Paul - not sure if you want a challenge, but you could find a Surf/4Runner at a breakers (try Dewsbury auto salvage) and see if you can get hold of and then modify the swing away spare carrier to fit - just a thought...

Yes from the Imports. But if you fit them to a uk model then you need to weld in a strenghing pannel in side the rear wing. Without this the pannel will bend as it is not fitted to uk models.

Hello Paul,

reading through the info available you will have to strengthen the rear panel to fit one to a UK spec LC.

cheers,

Ron.

Hello Paul,

I've made contact with the guys selling the carriers on Ebay,
they say that you can get a plate for the rear wheel mount from Toyota.

I've not checked this out but it's worth a look.

Cheers,

Ron.

Hello Paul,

The lads at WC 4x4 have fitted an internal wheel carrier inside their TLC's.
If you contact Paul I'm sure he'd help out with dimensions etc.
He's has a thick bar bolted onto the rear wheel arch and then conected to the roof,
an arm then protrudes off the bar and a plate has two wheel studs on it,
the wheel then bolts to the plate and sits upright inside the truck.
it looks quite good and is out of the way of thieving scum bags.

Cheers for now...
