Title: Vibration & Clutch in an '04 TD4
Post by: dave_2A_2.25Turbo on September 25, 2011, 10:04:01
I know nowt about Freelanders - this is regarding a mate's.  (Nothing but problems since he bought it).  It's an old-shape 04.

Latest problem is serious vibration that comes in at 25-ish mph.  It comes and goes.  Followed up by difficulty changing gear - he can now barely get it into any gear and has stopped using it.  Sound like failure of the Dual-mass Flywheel/clutch to me.  He has had a quote for just under a grand to replace.  Has anyone done this themselves? Is it a realistic DIY job?  Any experience of the solid conversions?

Thanks

can be done and you only have to replace the flywheel if its worn if you got mechanical knowledge should be ok

As far as the difficult gear selection you might find it is the clutch master cylinder? Does the clutch pedal stick down or feel really sloppy?
If you end up taking the gearbox out it is best to replace the clutch slave cylinder aswell, cost a bout an extra
