Title: 4x4 less
Post by: Frankie-Boy on March 11, 2013, 08:14:09
As from today I will no longer be the proud owner of a 4x4, through increasing costs I have had to succumb to getting a cheaper vehicle  so gone will be the P38 and in its place will be a Ford Galaxy.

I'll still be around to share in your grief, happiness and achievements.

I tried that a while ago, I went from the Shogun to a Vectra VXR but the VXR had a problem with the timing chains and went back to the dealer after three weeks.
Shame as it was fun to drive and I would have kept it.

So it was back to Land Rover and I've now got a 4.4 V8 L322.
Not the cheapest thing to run but with the mileage I do each year and difference in price of petrol over diesel I figured I may as well enjoy the power of the V8 over the slightly better economy of the TD6.

I bet you'll have another before too long.

I know where you are coming from we've had to choose between the P38 and my wifes Disco, the P38 won, got a
diesel Xtype to replace the disco, using a lot less diesel already

I have been looking for an Xtype  4x4 estate not bothered about petrol or derv as not a lot of difference in mpg and as I only cover around 200 miles a week the V6 petrol is attracting me big time, this is to replace my Mitsi L200  I wont get rid of the 03 Vitara though have to have a low box 4x4 for my shooting days,

So a galaxy is cheaper to run than a p38?  you'll be back before you know it.

I think there's a world of difference on fuel economy, P38 returns 12 - 15 mpg and the Galaxy up to 50 mpg, you dont need to be a maths expert to work that out.

In any case I only used the P38 on tarmac so no off road needs any more.

I was more meaning you will miss the 4x4 regardless of the better mpg  normal cars lack soul.

I agree with you on that one I have had 5 cars since my 90 and yes all of them have been far better on fuel but all of them together don't give that unique Landy charm, soul,or whatever it is that makes  a

Landy a Landy ,might of just talked myself into another one there.

At the moment I only have a Corsa (1.7 diesel 55+ mpg) on the road but I look forward to getting expendable income again, so I can bring (at least) one of my Series 3's down here, and then the major work of my 3 door 3.5 RR.

I hate Corsa's, but it is cheap... like my wallet right now.

I'm selling a Micra, if anyone's interested.  55MPG but not as cheap to run as a 300TDi on chipfat

I couldn't live without the RRC, even though we now only have one on the road, Blue is rusting away quietly, the LSE has had no gearbox for at least 2 years now, only the TDi keeps soldiering on.

Now that's what I call dedication to the marque ,I don't own a Landy right now but I know in my heart that another Landy of some shape or form is just around the corner

Hi Frank!!

Just browsing around some of the older bookmarked links

As you undoubtedly know I'm sadly 'Landie-less' too (have been since January 2010 now!!!)

Still hoping to get another at some point, (my) options are;
1. 101FC
2. Range Rover TDV8
3. Range Rover 'classic' (300Tdi/manual)
4. Discovery Commercial (300Tdi/manual)

Would love to Neil!!

We had a XKR for a few years, but I want to get back to the green-oval

Pootling about in an Octavia estate at the moment; very competant, capable, reliable; economical car, & I like it a lot

But, it's not a Landie

3. Range Rover 'classic' (300Tdi/manual)

Hey BTM, long time no speak.  If one of these is on your shopping list it's time to buy   prices are starting to creep up as good ones get harder to find, but it's a great truck.  Wouldn't be without ours at the moment.

Range Rover Classics fall broadly into 2 catagories, Project cars and projects with tax on

But somehow I can't picture you in a Eurobox

Noooo! say it isn't so

Looks nice actually, I'd be tempted myself if I had any money.  We managed to keep the classic on the road by making BioDeisel for it and knowing how to weld!

if you fancy a project, I might know where there is one
