Title: Pulling my hair out
Post by: Frankie-Boy on July 18, 2012, 10:42:26

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh,

I've spent a fortune on replacing parts on the aircon system on my P38, I've had it re-charged twice and it still wont work, the last tech gave me a certificate to show that it had passed all the legal checks for pressure etc but the clutch on the compressor wont kick in, seems like an electrical fault somewhere as we did manage to get it working by putting a direct 12v supply to it.

I dont know what to do next, its cost me near on £300 and still it refuses to work.

DAMN THING.

is there a legit fault condition that is supposed to make the clutch not engage if that condition is trigged?  Like for example is there a pressure sensor measuring the system to see if its charged, if not then it prevents the clutch being engaged, or supply voltage not reading high enough etc. If there such conditions then you maybe able to element if any are giving false (or even true) readings.  *shrug*

If the 'open wallet' picture is on the temp display, the AC won't kick in, usually caused by faulty blend motors....

is that the same as 'empty wallet or I wont work' condition?

The "Cheque Book" sign on the Hevac unit isn't on but the fans on the condenser & the compressor clutch are not working, there is a pressure sensor in the system but at present I don't know if its working or not.

I've asked our auto-electrician at work to have a look at it and try to sort it out but it feels like I've wasted about £300 on it so far, trouble is where do you stop after spending that much on it?

hi Frank, have you made sure that the cooling fan works o.k? On the Peugeot system if the fan don't work the clutch won't engage. Also have they put the correct amount of gas in the system, too much or too little and the system won't work either. Just a thought, good luck.....

Hi
If you take the nut off that holds the pulley on the compressor you will find some little spacers take one out. That worked for me.

Thanks for the replies, P38 sold now, it went in March this year.

I bought a Ford Galaxy, thats also gone and I now have a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, no Land Rovers or any other 4WD's in the fleet now.

At last I have a car that is economical, warm and cool if I want it and does everything I want, I dont do offroad or greenlanes any more so not missing a 4WD at all.
